The Center for Catastrophe Modeling and Resilience (CAT) is proud to announce that CAT faculty members Hongyi Li (Principal Investigator), Brian Davison (Co-PI), and Ethan Yang (Co-PI) have been selected for a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Genesis Mission Funding Award. The team will also work with collaborators from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) and City College of New York. 

Out of more than 5,000 proposals submitted nationwide, their project, "RIVER-AI: Reservoir–Groundwater Interactions for River Flow Variability, Energy, and Resilience with AI", was one of only 278 selected as part of this initiative.

The RIVER-AI project will develop a hybrid AI-physics modeling platform, and its progress will capture and improve prediction of water availability and risks critical to communities and energy systems. 

The Genesis Mission is a national initiative led by the U.S. Department of Energy to accelerate breakthroughs in energy, scientific discovery, and national security by integrating artificial intelligence with supercomputing and advanced scientific tools.

This national recognition underscores CAT’s core mission: driving interdisciplinary, forward-looking research that delivers actionable insights for catastrophe modeling and climate resilience.
