Prof. Dan M. Frangopol is the Fazlur R. Khan Endowed Chair of Structural Engineering and Architecture Emeritus. His research pioneered the study of risk and its applications to engineering. He was inducted into the National Academy of Engineering for his contributions to life-cycle civil engineering and leadership in its global development and adoption. The many international accolades that he received include 5 honorary doctorates, 14 honorary professorships, 6 guest professorships, and the title of Distinguished Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. In 2023, ASCE established the "Dan M. Frangopol Medal for Life-Cycle Engineering of Civil Structures," which will continue to recognize individuals who follow in Dr. Frangopol's footsteps.
