Representatives from the Center for Catastrophe Modeling and Resilience (CAT), and from the newly established Consortium for Enhancing Resilience and Catastrophe Modeling (CERCat)*, were pleased to attend the 15th Americas Conference on Wind Engineering (ACWE) in St. Louis, MO from May 19-22, 2025.

CERCat faculty member, Dr. Grace Yan was the Chair for this year’s conference as it was hosted by the Center for Hazard Mitigation & Community Resilience (HMCR) and Missouri S&T. Dr. Yan also serves as the Director of HMCR.

Building on the success of previous conferences, this year’s agenda was expanded to promote advanced research and practice to better confront the challenges of wind hazards under changing climate, including the improvement of building codes for diverse wind conditions.

CAT & CERCat faculty hosted and moderated a number of keynote speeches and mini-symposiums, including:

  • Catastrophe Modeling of Wind Hazards;
  • Coastal Resilience in a Changing Climate;
  • Wind Energy & Wind-Wave Structure Interactions;
  • Geometry Aware Conditional Neural Network-Based Wind Load Estimation for Buildings; and
  • Projection of Future Design Wind Speed Under Different Climate Scenarios.

*NOTE: keep an eye out for our official CERCat establishment announcement in the very near future!
